2024-25 NBA MVP Odds: Timberwolves Star Ready To Contend

October 21, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Anthony Edwards is quickly becoming one of the most entertaining and talented players in the NBA. The Timberwolves are likely going to be one of the best teams in the league again next season, and he will be their unquestioned leader. This 2024-25 NBA betting preview will determine whether Anthony Edwards’ MVP odds are worth taking as your best NBA futures bet for next season.

Following a standout 2022-23 season, Edwards and the Timberwolves were even better in 2023-24. The Timberwolves posted a remarkable 56-26 record, while Edwards firmly established himself as a superstar. His dynamic scoring ability and playmaking skills have made him the focal point of Minnesota’s offense, and his strength and athleticism have made him one of the better guard/wing defenders in the league.

Edwards averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals last season. He ended last season seventh in MVP voting, the highest finish of his career. He has shown consistent improvement in scoring and assists each season, and if he takes another leap, he could significantly impact the Timberwolves’ playoff aspirations and bolster his MVP case.

Edwards MVP Odds Increasing

Especially after the recent trade of Karl-Anthony Towns for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, the keys to the Timberwolves franchise are in the hands of Edwards. As he continues to improve, so do the Timberwolves. They enter next season as one of the favorites to be the best team in the Western Conference.

The combination of Edwards’ offensive explosiveness and Rudy Gobert‘s elite defense could create a formidable partnership that drives the Timberwolves to the top of the NBA standings. If Edwards can lead the team and post impressive numbers, he could very well emerge as a top candidate for the MVP award this season.

Edwards continues to improve, and so do his chances of winning an MVP award. He has stated he wants to win the award multiple times throughout his career. His team is primed for success, and with that often comes individual awards.

Anthony Edwards MVP Odds

Edwards currently holds the fifth-shortest odds to win MVP at +850. He sits behind previous winners, Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo, as well as superstars Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

With Towns in New York, Edwards is prepared to take on an even larger offensive load. Putting up similar numbers to Jokic or Doncic will be almost impossible, but can he average 30 points per game like SGA did last year?

One thing that separates Edwards from everyone else but Giannis on this list is that he is an elite defensive player as well. He only received four All-NBA Defensive Team votes last season, but outside of Giannis, the other MVP contenders ahead of him received none.

At +850, there is some value in taking Edwards as the league’s MVP. He will need to have large statistical improvements when it comes to counting stats, but there is an opportunity for that. If the Timberwolves can lead the Western Conference, Edwards can average nearly 30 points per game, and he can get more recognition for his defensive excellence, he can contend as an MVP winner.
