Minnesota Timberwolves superstar, Anthony Edwards, led his team to a perfect 3-0 record this week en route to his second conference Player of the Week honors.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are absolutely sizzling. Their current eight-game win streak, the longest since Kevin Garnett was still on the team, has been led by none other than Anthony Edwards. As a result, the NBA crowned him the Western Conference Player of the Week.

The Wolves defeated the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and Utah Jazz in the last seven days. Here was Edwards’ performances in each game:

  • @ Denver: 29 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 5 three pointers, 10/22 FG
  • vs Orlando: 28 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, 3 three pointers, 9/19 FG
  • vs Utah: 41 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 5 three pointers, 16/27 FG

The 23-year-old continues to lead the entire league in three pointers made, with a total of 270. He’s on pace to become just the fourth player in NBA history to make 300 or more treys in a single season. He has done this on above average efficiency as well, still sinking them at an above 40% mark on volume attempts.

Edwards leadership has really started to take shape as he navigates his first season without former Wolves franchise cornerstone, Karl-Anthony Towns. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the young star this year. The team’s win-loss record and uneven play struggled for much of the first half of the season. He also had openly scathing comments about his team, the officiating, and even the league in general. That bubbled on to the court, leading to his first suspension due reaching the technical foul limit.

However, since his suspension on February 28th, Edwards has seemingly corrected course. He has yet to receive a technical for arguing with the referees since his return (eight games). He’s focusing on how to best maximize his teammates and put them in positions to succeed. The effective reintegration of Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert post injury has largely been thanks to Edwards’ willingness to play in a way that benefits them.

The soon-to-be two-time All-NBA talent now ties Kevin Love and Al Jefferson as Timberwolves players who have won this award twice, and is now trailing Karl-Anthony Towns (7) and Kevin Garnett (15).
