Can Timberwolves Center Land In Brooklyn Next Season?

June 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid excels as one of the NBA’s best role players. His strong performance helped eliminate the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the playoffs. Now, Reid faces an important decision regarding his future this offseason. With the Nets rebuilding, Naz Reid heading to Brooklyn could be an option for the team to consider.

Can Timberwolves Center Land In Brooklyn Next Season?

Reid has been one of the NBA’s top sixth men in recent years. He averaged 14.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists this season. Over six seasons with the Timberwolves, he has proven himself as a leader, earning Sixth Man of the Year in 2023-24 while consistently making a positive impact. He could enter free agency this summer or opt into his $15 million player option. Given his high value in the market, testing free agency could lead to significant offers from teams looking to strengthen their roster. His choice will have a lasting impact on his career and earning potential.

Only The Nets Can Afford To Sign

As Reid continues to elevate his game, his future remains a key talking point in the league. His contributions on both ends of the court make him a valuable asset for any team, including the rebuilding Nets. ESPN’s Bobby Marks pointed out that the Timberwolves might have to choose between keeping Julius Randle and Reid on their roster. Both will become free agents and have player options.

Marks wrote, “Will the Timberwolves be forced to choose between retaining Randle, Reid and Alexander-Walker? The answer could play a pivotal part in how Minnesota’s roster is shaped next season and in the future.” Marks continued, “For Randle and Reid, a return to Minnesota seems likely. Other than a sign-and-trade, there is no team outside of the rebuilding Brooklyn Nets that could sign either player to a contract greater than $14.1 million. The question is whether Minnesota should invest in them next season.”

The Nets are rebuilding and hold a strong position. They possess four first round draft picks this year and have the salary cap room to pursue free agents. In June’s draft, they can strategically use their selections to strengthen the roster.

Naz Reid To Brooklyn

If Reid leaves, the Timberwolves’ lineup takes a major hit. This offseason, they must decide whether to re-sign him or let him walk in free agency. If they move on, they could pursue a trade for Suns forward Kevin Durant if he requests a trade this summer.

Reid, 25, would strengthen any roster with his defense, leadership, and presence. He would fit well with the Nets’ young team, playing alongside Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton. His addition would boost the bench’s rotation, providing key minutes when starters rest. Coach Jordi Fernandez could use Reid to push his players toward a faster-paced style of play. Brooklyn finished 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 26-56 record in 2024-25. They have not made the playoffs since 2023 but are looking to return. Reid could be a key factor in their playoff push.

The Nets’ signing Reid could be exciting if Brooklyn becomes his next destination.
