I’m told that though Dereck Lively II was examined and underwent a neck scan at a hospital last night, the Mavericks won’t know until further tests later today about a prognosis.

Dereck Lively is one of the best rookie defenders I have ever seen. And I’m going to say this. There’s a difference between blocking shots and being an elite defender and rim protector. Lively has single-handedly wrecked Minnesota’s offense at times in this series – 1:33 AM

What a performance by Daniel Gafford

Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
What we’ve seen from Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell is proof of how special Dereck Lively is.
The moment that rookie left this game blitzing became a viable strategy for Minnesota defensively. He can handle it. Gafford and Powell can’t. – 10:08 PM

More on this storyline

Mike Curtis: Jason Kidd says there will be an update on Dereck Lively II and Maxi Kleber later today. -via Twitter @MikeACurtis2 / May 27, 2024
Mike Curtis: Maxi Kleber (right shoulder) is back on the court with the rest of the bigs. No sign of Dereck Lively II (neck) anywhere. -via Twitter @MikeACurtis2 / May 27, 2024
Brad Townsend: I’m told that Dereck Lively arrived at Mavs practice facility about 15 minutes ago, walking gingerly, not at all looking like someone who might play tomorrow, but that’s one eyewitness account and certainly not official. Media availability is scheduled to begin in about 15 minutes, so hopefully we’ll get an update, but especially during the playoffs teams keep injury news close to the vest. -via Twitter @townbrad / May 27, 2024
