Donovan Mitchell says he was locked in mom’s basement for about a month and half when he had COVID

December 7, 2023 by Hoops Hype

During a recent appearance on “Run Your Race,” Mitchell talked about the time he spent in his mother’s basement in Connecticut early on during the pandemic because people were afraid that he had the virus. Mitchell’s teammate on the Utah Jazz at the time, Rudy Gobert, was the first player to test positive for the virus before the NBA suspended the season. “I couldn’t go nowhere and get food because people thought I really had Covid,” Mitchell said. “And this was when, remember that high school kid that died? So people didn’t know if you were healthy, unhealthy, whatever the thing was. So, I was locked in my mom’s basement for about a month and a half.”

#Cavs Georges Niang just made a much-needed 3-pointer. Donovan Mitchell signaled Jamahl Mosley to call timeout and then everyone went crazy, pumping up Niang on the bench. That was a big one to push the lead back to 14. – 8:58 PM

More on this storyline

“You want to play, win the championship, make the extra bread, but you look at the little things that we’ve done over the past few days and that’s what we want to continue to build on,” star guard Donovan Mitchell said following the win. “We didn’t get this championship so now the main goal is to focus on the next one and continue to build. I’m not going to sit here and be upset because at the end of the day we won. That’s the end goal. This was a good win.” -via Cleveland Plain Dealer / November 29, 2023
Other Knicks trade chips include Quentin Grimes and Evan Fournier due to his $18.86 million contract, which is essentially an expiring contract due to a team option clause for next season. Fournier has been banished to the bench in all but one game for a brief cameo appearance. In years past, the Knicks shied away from including Grimes in trade talks with the Clippers for Paul George, the Bulls for Zach LaVine, the Jazz during Donovan Mitchell trade talks, and the Hawks, who also inquired about him. -via HoopsHype / November 29, 2023
Rival NBA executives are monitoring Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell’s happiness in Cleveland. Mitchell is signed through next season before a $37 million player option for the 2025-26 season, which many around the league expect him to eventually decline. Cleveland wants to sign Mitchell to a long-term contract down the line and is in no rush to move him after making offseason moves to improve the team around him and the team’s core. … Should Mitchell become available on the trade market at any point, a bevy of teams, including the Knicks, will be among those heavily interested. -via HoopsHype / November 29, 2023
