Hawks, Timberwolves Complete Much Anticipated Sign-And-Trade

July 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a sign-and-trade that will bring 3-and-D guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker to the Atlanta Hawks on a four-year, $62 million deal, according to ESPN senior insider Shams Charania.

Alexander-Walker’s new contract is highly favorable for him. It includes not only a player option but a trade kicker. For facilitating the transaction, the Timberwolves will receive a 2027 second-round pick that originally belonged to the Cleveland Cavaliers and cash.

Interestingly, Alexander-Walker has already played for Hawks head coach Quin Snyder, albeit briefly.

After a series of trades, the Ontario native landed with the Utah Jazz —Snyder’s former team —in 2022. In the 15 games that the two spent with the same organization, he averaged 12.8 points, 4.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game, posting a +6.6 on-court plus-minus. However, he shot just 30.3 percent from 3. Since then, the 26-year-old has become a strong outside shooter, knocking down 38.5 percent of his 3s.

As he reunites with Snyder, he figures to be a core member of the rotation for the foreseeable future.
