The Lynx are partnering with Federated Insurance, a Minnesota company based out of Owatonna, to be the organization’s Jersey Patch Partner with a focus on local ties and elevating women’s sports in local communities.
The Minnesota Lynx have a new sponsorship with one of its longest-standing corporate partners to be displayed on the front players’ jerseys beginning in the 2024 WNBA season.
The Lynx announced Monday they have agreed to a multi-year partnership with Federated Insurance, a Minnesota company based out of Owatonna, to be the organization’s Jersey Patch Partner.
This new partnership between the Lynx and Federated Insurance will focus on local ties and elevating women’s sports while fostering meaningful impact and change in communities across the state.
“With Federated Insurance being our new partner for the jersey patch, we’re super excited to have this local angle back,” Lynx Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships David King told Canis Hoopus. “For us to have on the front of our jersey, literally stitched into the fabric of the team, being Owatonna, Minnesota (with Federated Insurance) and Rochester, Minnesota with Mayo Clinic, it’s special.
“For them, it’s certainly a physical representation of the story of what we’re creating, which is investing in young girls in Minnesota. They’ve done an incredible about of work raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters, so they’re a purpose-driven company. It makes it a lot of fun for us when we are able tie doing good into our partnerships,” King continued. “When you have a partner like Federated where that is the priority, it’s really exciting.”
Federated Insurance, a national insurance and risk management organization that serves the property, casualty and life insurance needs of clients in select industries, is entering its 20th year of partnering with the Lynx organization in 2024.
This expanded partnership between the Lynx and Federated Insurance strengthens the relationship between two organizations who embrace local ties and continue to remain dedicated to uplifting the communities where their employees and players live, work and play.
“We are incredibly proud to show our support for women’s professional sports as the new Jersey Patch Partner for the Minnesota Lynx,” Federated Insurance Chairman Jeff Fetters said via a statement released by the Lynx organization. “The Lynx are a tremendously talented team both on and off the court, and true source of pride for our state. Federated Insurance is fortunate to have a longstanding relationship with the Lynx, as our two organizations share many of the same values –including a passion for giving back to the community and a firm commitment to a championship culture.”
Since 2004 when the partnership between the Lynx and Federated Insurance began, the Lynx have supported Federated Insurance’s annual charity event, the Federated Challenge, which has raised more than $52 million to support youth mentoring and educational programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The Lynx plan to continue to work together with Federated Insurance on a host of community-focused initiatives in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters in both Southern Minnesota and Twin Cities regions.
“They are unique in that they really believe in the fact that they can do well by doing good. That’s something that they really live, and this is just another piece of that for them. … They want to be able to use this as a story as they are going out and telling people the work they are doing in the community, the work they are doing with teams like the Lynx and how they are investing in women’s sports,” King said.
“That’s one of the reasons we’ve always been really committed to find a partner locally. It just so happened that they have been a partner for 20 years. When we started talking about what this could mean for them and the Federated Challenge, I think they got excited about it and so did we.”
Minnesota will begin wearing Federated Insurance’s logo on the front of all of the team’s jerseys throughout the 2024 season, including the Heroine, Explorer and Rebel Edition uniforms. The first chance to see the jersey patch will be during Minnesota’s first preseason game on May 4 at Target Center and throughout the 2024 season, which tips off on May 14 against the Seattle Storm.
