Napheesa Collier Nabs Second Player of the Week Honors

The Minnesota Lynx captain snags the second Player of the Week honors this season. There have only been three full weeks worth of action so far.

Another week, another award to add to Napheesa Collier’s future Hall of Fame credentials. On Tuesday morning, it was announced the Phee earned her second Western Conference Player of the Week award.

There have only been three Player of the Week opportunities in the WNBA season so far, and Collier has already collected two of them. This makes it her ninth POTW honors, only trailing the legendary Maya Moore (20) in Minnesota Lynx franchise history. Her dominance didn’t just start this WNBA season though, as she was named MVP of the inaugural Unrivaled season just three months ago, as well as the first 1-on-1 tournament champion.

Minnesota played twice last week, defeating both the Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings, pushing their undefeated record to a whopping 9-0. That’s atop the league both in overall standings and Commissioner’s Cup standings (3-0).

• vs Phoenix: 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 8/13 FG
• vs Dallas: 28 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 3 three pointers, 10/19 FG

Just a week ago, Collier was named the Western Conference Player of the Month, and if this trend continues, she’ll be wrapping up another one for the month of June.

Minnesota has certainly come into this season without any extra motivation necessary after the debacle that was game five of the 2024 WNBA finals. That said, the coaching staff and players have all shared in unison that their goal isn’t to just make up for what happened last season, but to treat this season as its own journey and not look too far ahead. Though Collier and the Lynx have played well, there is still a lot of room for improvement before they get into championship form.
