Anthony Edwards face of NBA? Yes, if he ends up taking down KD, LeBron, Luka and others (w/video) #NBAPlayoffs #Suns #LakeShow azcentral.com/story/sports/n… via @azcentral – 6:29 PM

Last Two Minute Report from Lakers-Wolves Game 4 holds up JJ Redick’s contention that Luka Doncic was tripped and should have been awarded free throws. It does not support LeBron James’ stance that the hand was part of the ball on the out of bounds call on Anthony Edwards pic.x.com/cLvJaKnHGb – 5:49 PM

NBA rules Minnesota’s Jaden McDaniels stepped into Luka Doncic’s path when he tripped with 35 seconds left yesterday.
Also: NBA rules all other calls/non calls were correct in Pistons/Knicks except for Josh Hart fouling Tim Hardaway Jr’s jump shot at the buzzer pic.x.com/pmBYnN8TY0 – 5:46 PM

Tim Reynolds @ByTimReynolds
Jaden McDaniels should have been called for a foul when his feet got tangled with Luka Doncic in the final minute of the Lakers-Timberwolves game yesterday, the NBA says.
It would have given the Lakers free throws, down by 1. – 5:45 PM
Vincent Goodwill @VinceGoodwill
JJ Redick made a calculated decision not to sit LeBron or Luka to start the fourth… and rolled snake eyes.

Anthony Edwards sent KD and Jokic home last year, on the verge of sending LeBron and Luka home right now. He walked them down yesterday, the NBA’s newest giant slayer sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/th… – 11:07 AM

Anthony Edwards may not want everything that comes with the exalted platform he is approaching. As he walked down Luka and LeBron in the 4th quarter, the conversation started to change.
How can it NOT be him?

Rick Carlisle hasn’t called many plays for more than a decade. Started with Jason Kidd, then Luka, now Tyrese. Only when he sees something or they’re struggling to execute. – 10:37 PM
Christopher Hine @ChristopherHine
Asked Jaden McDaniels about stepping to the line to give the Wolves the lead late: “I shoot a bunch of free throws every day. Just another free throw. I was more worried about when I slammed the ball, my hand was ringing. I was more worried about that than anything.” – 8:12 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Luka Doncic acknowledged the disappointment of losing a game that they led by as many as 12 (including 10 to start the 4th Q, 7 with 5:06 left and 2 with 1:29 left), but emphasized that LA haven’t lost the series yet, and that it’s the first to 4. – 7:07 PM

Luka Doncic: “This is the playoffs. Fatigue shouldn’t play a role [in it].” – 7:06 PM
Kamenetzky Brothers @KamBrothers
Reaves was awful in the first half (and for much of Game 3) and missed too many gotta-have-it 3’s. Ant has been better than Luka, particularly late. That’s the difference in two very close games. BK – 7:00 PM
Nate Duncan @NateDuncanNBA
I thought JJ really blew it not calling a timeout to go 2 for 1 with 39 seconds left. Ended up with the LeBron turnover in the backcourt, but they weren’t gonna get the 2 for 1 anyway by that point. Luka not exactly the guy to push it up fast. – 7:00 PM
Frank Isola @TheFrankIsola
I get no one feels sorry for the big, bad Lakers but…Luka got tripped, no call. Also, Lakers used final time out thinking they had possession down one only to lose it when the challenge – aided by an overhead camera angle – resulted in a LeBron foul on Edwards. Brutal. – 6:54 PM
Kendrick Perkins @KendrickPerkins
Rookie Mistake by JJ!!! Bron and Luka were dead tired… you’ve have to find time to get them some rest. Especially a 40 year old Lebron James who’s in his 100th season. – 6:52 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
Anthony Edwards has been the best player in a series with LeBron James and Luka Doncic. I think that says everything that needs to be said about him. He could really be the best player in the NBA some day. – 6:41 PM

Just gonna come down to how many plays Luka and Ant can make in this last 4:17. You knew this moment was coming in a pivotal swing game for this series. Here it is. – 6:14 PM

Quick 5-0 spurt by Naz Reid – while defending a Luka Doncic missed layup in between his scores – cuts the Lakers’ lead to 104-102 with 4:17 to go. Timeout LAL – 6:14 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Another big swing of momentum here as Doncic just missed a layup, and Minnesota got a 3 on the other end from Reid.
Wolves trim the margin to just 2 with 4:17 to play. – 6:13 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Edwards hit B2B 3’s to start the 4th Q (33 points), but Reaves answered the 1st, and Doncic got 2 FT’s moments later to keep LA up 9.
Same 5 for the Lakers, no subs so far in the 2nd half. – 5:57 PM

The inconsistency of Jaden McDaniels
Game 1: 25 points, 11/13 FGs (win)
Game 2: 8 points, 3/11 FGs (loss)
Game 3: 30 points, 13/22 FGs (win)
Game 4: 0 points, 0/2 FGs (1st quarter)
Big second quarter for him with Ant on bench. – 4:25 PM
Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
LA take a 12-10 lead into the first time out after LeBron hit a difficult corner 3 over Rudy Gobert’s outstretched arms, and then forced a turnover on Jaden McDaniels.
No turnovers for either team yet. – 4:02 PM
Khobi Price @khobi_price
Looks like the Lakers have changed their defensive assignments: Jaxson Hayes was guarding Jaden McDaniels, Rui Hachimura is guarding Rudy Gobert, LeBron James is on Mike Conley. – 3:55 PM
Christopher Hine @ChristopherHine
One moment late in the Timberwolves win over the Lakers showed how Anthony Edwards can read a defense in late-game situations. The rest of the night, he had help from a “monster” Jaden McDaniels. Story from Game 3: startribune.com/minnesota-timb… – 12:21 PM

The Timberwolves have taken a 2-1 series lead over the Lakers with a 116-104 win in Game 3. Jaden McDaniels had 30 points. Ant was huge in the clutch, finishing with 29 points 8 rebounds and 8 assists. – 12:31 AM

Jonathan Wasserman @NBADraftWass
There was a minute in time when there was an early convo about Jaden McDaniels being a #1 pick candidate in HS. Obviously not that guy but very cool how he’s adapted to become a star role player. – 11:39 PM
Dave McMenamin @mcten
Jaden McDaniels Game 1: 25 pts on 11-of-13
Jaden McDaniels Game 2: 8 pts on 3-of-11
Jaden McDaniels Game 3 1st Q so far: 8 pts on 4-of-5 – 10:14 PM
Sam Quinn @SamQuinnCBS
Other than Anthony Edwards making a billion 3s now, Jaden McDaniels leveling up on offense is the most significant long-term development of the season for Minnesota. – 10:12 PM

More on this storyline

Earvin Magic Johnson: I dont know if it smart to play LeBron and Luka the entire second half after only having one day of rest between Games 3 and 4. When we needed LeBron to take over in the fourth quarter he couldn’t – he scored 0 points in the fourth. -via x.com / April 28, 2025
While appearing on Sundae Conversation, a video show hosted by former quarterback-turned-media-guy Caleb Pressley that has 1 million YouTube subscribers, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić was confronted with the immortal question. “Can you see yourself ever moving back to Texas after basketball?” Pressley asked. “Doesn’t have to be Dallas.” Not even a beat passed before Dončić responded: “No.” “Even Houston?” “No.” “Houston Luka?” “No.” -via Houston Chronicle / April 28, 2025
Anthony Edwards: I just take advantage of every opportunity. I’ve dreamed of these moments my whole life, football or basketball. Playing against Luka — the best young player — and LeBron — the best leaving the game — it’s about proving I belong. -via YouTube / April 28, 2025
Doncic, Redick and James thought the officiating hurt the Lakers in the final minute. Doncic needed to call timeout with 33 seconds left, with the Lakers trailing 114-113, after falling to the floor in the backcourt while being guarded by the Wolves’ Jaden McDaniels. “Luka got tripped,” Redick said. “I mean, that was a blatant trip. He doesn’t just fall on his own. We rewatched it. He gets tripped. So we should have been at the free throw line.” Said Doncic: “I think I got tripped, for sure.” -via ESPN / April 28, 2025
Chris Hine: Asked Jaden McDaniels about stepping to the line to give the Wolves the lead late: “I shoot a bunch of free throws every day. Just another free throw. I was more worried about when I slammed the ball, my hand was ringing. I was more worried about that than anything.” -via Bluesky / April 27, 2025
“You know what it’s like to guard Luka. You’re getting a lot of possessions, but Jaden’s guarding him too. How impressive is his work defensively and offensively?” Anthony Edwards: “I told him maybe two years ago, ‘Bro, I don’t understand what type of shape you’re in.’ He never looks tired. I mean, I know he doesn’t show emotion, but you can usually tell when someone’s tired. Me — end of the first quarter — I’m catching my breath. Jaden? Never looks tired. Looks like he can play 48 minutes.” -via YouTube / April 26, 2025
