The Great Wizard of Naz is back! Reid is reportedly signing to a long-term deal that will keep him in Minnesota through 2030.

On Friday evening, ESPN’s Shams Charania dropped the biggest news that Minnesota Timberwolves fans have been waiting for.
Just in: Minnesota Timberwolves’ Naz Reid intends to sign a new five-year, $125 million contract to stay with the franchise, including a player option, sources tell ESPN. Naz Reid expectedly declined his $15 million player option for the 2025-2026 season, and now commits to Minnesota through 2030. Reid is here to stay. According to Charania, the annual average value of $25 million per year was offered by other teams who also teased a starting spot, but Reid chose Minnesota.
This is the second time that the former Sixth Man of the Year has chosen friendship continuity over the max money after he signed a three-year $42 million contract extension two years ago.
In contrast, the Dallas Mavericks recently re-signed big man Daniel Gafford to a three-year $54 million extension. $7 million more per year doesn’t seem too shabby for a younger, more versatile, and much more in-demand big.
That said, Dane Moore shares that until the full contract details are revealed, this now means it would be highly improbable that the Wolves can retain both Julius Randle and Nickeil Alexander-Walker while staying under the second apron.
A 5-year, $125M is a significant step above the 5-year, $109M opt in and extend option for Naz Reid.
Wolves are still finalizing structure of Reid’s new deal, per source.
With a deal of that size, without making another significant cost-cutting move, the Wolves will not be able… https://t.co/1wGnu7xbQl

This is likely just the first domino of many that Tim Connelly has set into motion. It’s been reported that he met separately with both Reid and Randle recently. Will Randle decide to opt-in to his $30.9 million player option this season? Or will he avoid unrestricted free agency and seek a short-term extension with more security money?
NAW will be a much trickier situation. Not only is he an unrestricted free agent, but he also plays a position that has a lot more talent in the wings for Minnesota. The front office has not been shy to talk up youngers TJ Shannon and Jaylen Clark, not to mention Donte DiVincenzo who is signed to a very team-friendly contract for the next two seasons. Until then…
