More often than not this season, LeBron James remained the best player on most NBA hardwoods. Night after night, he proved he was still the best player in shape, the smartest, and simply the best on the floor. He isn’t the league’s best overall player anymore; however, most nights, you can’t find anyone else to dethrone him for 48 minutes. Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was fantastic in Game 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers. He led the T’Wolves to a victory and a 2-1 series lead over the Lakers. However, it would be hard to argue that James was not still the best player on the floor, given his 38-point performance and, more specifically, his insane shooting night, of which Antman was in awe during and after the game.
Timberwolves Star Amazed by LeBron James Heroics
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards couldn’t believe LeBron James’s Game 3 38-point performance
If Luka Dončić hadn’t spent the day leading up to Game 3 vomiting and struggling with a stomach bug, the Lakers very well may have taken this game, and they would be up 2-1 instead of the other way around. Los Angeles led multiple times throughout the game. However, Dončić was far from the player he was in the first two games, and that stomach bug played a role. Because of that, James took the wheel and did everything he could to keep LA in the fight. He gave them a winning chance. It was spectacular—he was spectacular, and it didn’t go unnoticed.
James and Edwards could be seen talking back and forth throughout the game. It was postgame where Edwards showed his respect and admiration for LeBron [2:20 mark], commenting on his incredible shooting night, with some added familiar Edwards humor.
“He was incredible. He did everything he could in his power to try to will them to the win. He was shooting it from Yucatan, he was shooting it crazy, for sure. He caught one of them in transition, and I was closing out and thinking, ‘He’s not about to shoot this,’ and he launched it. It was fun to watch him and compete against him today.”
Game 4 expected to be be much different than Game 3
LeBron is entirely capable of recording back-to-back nearly 40-point games if he absolutely needs to. It just happened that he needed to go that deep on Friday night. However, the story will likely differ when Game 4 tips off Sunday afternoon. By then, Dončić’s stomach bug should have passed. The same player who put up 68 points in the first two games should return. That would mean LeBron lets Luka take over while he backs him up.
How Minnesota reacts to that should make for another tough, competitive game. LA bounced back after dropping Game 1. There’s no reason to believe they can’t bounce back after dropping Game 3. Of course, Luka has to be Luka for that to happen. As for LeBron, he’ll do whatever he feels necessary to mark his own impact in another way that will keep Edwards amazed.
