This is not your father’s Wisconsin Badger team, this team plays with pace and is efficient on both ends of the floor. After years of being one of the slowest teams in college basketball, this team is different.
KEYS TO A GOPHER WIN
Ride Garcia – Once in a while Garcia seems to take things personally and he takes over. This has to be one of those type of games. The lengthy stretches of not having Garcia touching the ball won’t cut it. Get him the ball, let him work.
Own the paint – I don’t think this is going to happen, but the Gophers have to control the paint on both ends. Steven Crowl and Nolan Winter are very good players inside and out, but controlling the action in the paint will help considerably. This might be on the shoulders of Frank Mitchell to play physical without fouling.
Play free and fearless – I typically cringe at vague and undefinable things like this, but this is the kind of attitude they need to play with tonight. Play free, while still taking good shots. If we have Mike Mitchell chucking up bad three pointers, that won’t play well for us. But if they are attacking the rim and playing physical defense, it may get interesting.
PREDICTION
Unfortunately, this is a really good Badger team and this is not a great matchup for Minnesota. I’m looking forward to Sunday’s game at Rutgers, but I suspect this will be a loss.
