COVID issues with the Alaska program postpone the season opener a week
Well so much for that. The Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team was slated to open the season against the Alaska Nanooks this weekend at 3M at Mariucci Arena, but that has now been postponed until January due to COVID issues in the Alaska team.
The series has been postponed to January 14th and 15 which was a mutual bye week for both teams. The series now slots in between a road series at Michigan State and a home series against Michigan for Minnesota. Game times and TV are TBD but the games are now schedules for a Friday/Saturday series instead of the Saturday/Sunday series it would have been this weekend. Anyone with tickets for this weekend’s series will be able to use them for the rescheduled series in January with Oct 2 tickets good for Friday night and Oct 3 tickets good for Saturday.
Alaska is one of the hottest spots in the world for COVID at the moment with new record highs for cases, hospitalizations and deaths for the state this past week.
Minnesota will now open their 2021-22 season next Friday night when they host Merrimack at 7PM. That game will air on Bally Sports North Plus.
