
The Gopher men enter the meet ranked 10th in the nation
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are in Eugene, Oregon this weekend as the 2025 NCAA track and Field Championships begin on Wednesday and continue through Sunday. The Gopher men’s team will have entries in seven different events, while the women will have two entries. The Minnesota men’s team comes into the Championships ranked #10 in the nation, and will be looking to pull off an upset for the ages and try and win their first NCAA Team Championship since 1948.
The Gopher men will look to bring home an individual championship for the first time since 2018 when Obsa Ali won the 3000m steeplechase. The Gophers have five different events seeded seventh or higher headed into the weekend. All eyes will be on the Minnesota hammer throwers when the the Gophers take to the field on Wednesday afternoon. The Gophers bring in the top two seeds in the event. Sophomore Angelos Mantzouranis is ranked #1 with a season best, which is No. 3 all-time in NCAA hammer throw history, of 78.61m (257-11) Fellow Greek international Kostas Zaltos is just behind him at No.2 nationally at 77.91m (255-7), which is No. 8 all-time in NCAA hammer throw history.
Minnesota also has a pair of jumpers ranked #2 in the nation. Sophomore Charles Godfred is the reigning Big Ten Champion two years running in the Long Jump. He has a wind-aided season-best of 8.13m (26-8 1/4) that he set at the Drake Relays. Hakeem Ford is the #2 triple jumper in the nation and his long wind-legal triple jump of 16.54m (54-3 1/4) came back at the Florida Relays on April 4.
The Gopher 4×100 replay team of Zion Campbell, Kion Benjamin, Aaron Charles and Devin Augustine have the No. 7 time in the nation at 38.54, which came at the 2025 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. The quartet is led by NCAA veterans in Benjamin and Augustine, who have both ran on the 4x100m relay and as individuals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in their careers. Campbell and Charles, two first-year Gophers, will make their NCAA Outdoor Championships debut at Hayward Field.
Minnesota will have Jak Urlacher take place in the pole vault and Christian Martin compete in the 110 meter hurdles. Urlacher is seeded 23rd out of 24 competitors in the event while Martin has the 30th best time in the nation this season.
The Gopher women will be represented by Dyandra Gray in the 400 meter hurdles and Ali Weimer in the 10,000 meters. Gray has the 29th best time in the nation while Weimer has the 33rd best time in the country.
All of the action can be watched beginning at 6 PM Wednesday and Thursday on ESPN and at 7 PM Friday and 8 PM Saturday on ESPN2. All individual events will also stream via ESPN+. The full schedule of Minnesota events is below:
