A former Hawkeye is joining the Gophers
I’m back — and it appears I’ve got some catching up to do.
Head coach P.J. Fleck and co. have been active in the transfer portal this spring, seeking to supplement their roster for the fall. Iowa cornerback John Nestor was the first to grab an oar and announce his intent to transfer to Minnesota with two years of eligibility remaining.

A Chicago native, Nestor was a three-star prospect, according to 247 Sports, when he signed with the Hawkeyes out of high school. He saw action in 10 games each of the last two seasons, primarily as a reserve cornerback and a special teams contributor.
With the Gophers, Nestor will have the opportunity to compete for immediate playing time with starting cornerbacks Justin Walley and Ethan Robinson and starting nickel back Jack Henderson all walking out the door. His primary competition will be redshirt sophomore Za’Quan Bryan and North Carolina Central transfer Jaylen Bowden.
