We’re just a few days away from the bonafide start of the 2021 college football season. While there are sure to be huge upsets throughout the season, ESPN’s Mark May believes Ohio State should be wary of Week 1 opponent, Minnesota.
Appearing on The Crowd’s Line alongside Lou Holtz, May argued that Minnesota could be a “trap game” for Ohio State. May pointed out that the current crop of Ohio State players were all recruited and developed by Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.
He feels that Day hasn’t proven himself yet with players that he recruited and developed by himself. As a result, he feels that Minnesota could take advantage of that.
“A huge trap game in my mind for the #Buckeyes. Take the 14 points in this game,” May tweeted on Wednesday. “The first game with a QB that Ryan Day had to recruit and develop from the start. I like the #Gophers with the points.”

Ohio State is favored by two touchdowns against Minnesota this weekend. It will be favored by double-digits in almost all of their games this season too.
With a new starting quarterback, numerous new skill position players and a lot of fresh faces, this isn’t the same team that reached the national title game last year. But Ohio State are the Big Ten’s best recruiting school. They should be able to beat most of their opposition with talent alone.
Ryan Day has never lost a regular season game as either a head coach or interim head coach. It would be an upset of epic proportions if he loses his first game of the new season.
