Payne is a physical cornerback who excels at playing the ball and is not afraid to challenge receivers at the line of scrimmage. He triggers quickly on short throws and reacts well to plays behind the line of scrimmage. Payne is also a reliable tackler. His stock has been on the rise in his performance at an Under Armour camp back in April. Payne registered an electronic 4.44 40-yard dash, a 4.27 short shuttle, and a broad jump over ten feet, which was followed by his first Power 4 offer from Wake Forest.
