As of writing this on Saturday morning, the 2025 Twins are still mostly intact, with the first trade domino not yet toppled. That being said, it’s July 26th, and the 50-53 Twins are fourth in the division, four out in the Wild Card, and looking up at five teams they’d need to outplay between now and Game 162 to scrape into the playoffs.
It’s feeling a bit like an “enjoy it while it lasts” kind of series.
And while starting pitcher Joe Ryan may not be dealt at the deadline — my two cents says that with enough team control left to wait out a new owner’s opinion, it’s worth assuming you might have the capital down the road to retain him — enough rumors have been swirling around the Deadhead to warrant a little extra attention while he’s on the mound this week.
Starting for the Washington Nationals is sophomore Mitchell Parker, who logged 29 starts last year but has taken a few steps back in his second season, with a higher ERA, WHIP, BB/9, and lower K/9, K/BB ratio, and ERA+. His four-pitch mix isn’t missing bats this year, and opponents are hitting the ball hard. However, he’s a lefty, so it’s just as likely that the Twin lineup will forget entirely how to put good at-bats together.
