The weekend is in the rearview mirror, but I was there for it all Sunday had some excitement, but the heartbreak continues. I did see this “tweet” after the game, and I thought it was fitting.

Let’s talk about tonight.
Fresh off a weekend sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Twins are still at home to face one of the American League’s hottest teams—and the hottest hitter in baseball—for a four-game series.
Cal Raleigh, the Mariners’ slugging catcher, arrives in Minneapolis leading all of Major League Baseball with 31 home runs. He launched his latest blast on Sunday, putting him ahead of Yankees superstar Aaron Judge (27) before the all-star break. Raleigh has been on a tear.
Adding another layer to the storyline is the return of longtime Twin Jorge Polanco. The fan favorite is batting fourth tonight and serving as the Mariners’ designated hitter.
Meanwhile, the Twins are in the middle of a free fall. They’ve lost nine of their last 10 games. Their starting pitching has struggled to go deep, and the offense has largely gone cold—aside from one bright spot: Byron Buxton.
Buxton was electric on Sunday in Milwaukee, clubbing two home runs and drawing an intentional walk late in the game when we needed him most, ahead of Larnach striking out looking. He leads the team with 17 home runs and is batting .285.
On the mound Monday night, the Twins turn to right-hander Bailey Ober, who’s searching for answers of his own. Since May 8, Ober is 0-3 and hasn’t recorded a win in his last eight starts. He’ll be looking to reset against a Mariners lineup that’s hitting with confidence and momentum. Seattle counters with Bryan Woo who is 6-4 on the season with a 3.12 ERA.
A four-game series in late June doesn’t usually carry this much weight—but for the Twins, it feels like a crossroads. Can they slow down baseball’s most dangerous hitter? Can Buxton continue to carry an offense running out of answers? And can Ober finally snap his winless streak?
The answers start to come Monday night at Target Field.
I’ll be in attendance and am leaving my house literally right now. It’s raining where I live though, however radar looks good over Minneapolis.
Go Twins! and Hip! Hip! Jorge! … but only when there is no one on base.
