Red Sox 4, Twins 5: Twins win! Twins win!

The Twins wait out the rain delay in the bottom of nine and get the walkoff win.

The Minnesota Twins outlasted the Boston Red Sox after being down one run going into the bottom of the ninth. Unsure if the game was even going to continue — as we were in the middle of a dang near derecho here — the Twins somehow found time to walk it off and win the game after a 90 minute rain delay.

It was a much-needed win for this depleted team, which had just traded away starting pitcher Chris Paddack to the Detroit Tigers earlier in the day.

Let’s take it back to the first inning.

On the mound for the Twins was Simeon Woods Richardson. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out five. An Alex Bregman home run in the fifth would prove costly for both the Twins and Woods Richardson — at the time, anyway.

It came after a frustrating inning for the Twins, when the bases were loaded: Clemens walked, Royce Lewis singled, Wallner singled — bases loaded, no outs. Then France struck out, and Christian Vázquez grounded into a double play, leaving the bases loaded with nothing to show for it.

However, that came AFTER the Twins scored the first runs of the game. Dashawn Keirsey Jr. homered on a fly ball to left-center, scoring Vázquez. It was a two-run shot — his second of the season. Twins up 2–0 at that point.

In the fifth, though, as mentioned the Red Sox capitalized, up 3-2.

In the sixth, Christian Vázquez hit a sac fly to center, scoring Lewis, 3-3 game. But off Jhoan Duran in the ninth, Roman Anthony hit a line drive to center, and David Hamilton scored to give Boston a late lead.

In the bottom of the ninth — after Duran tried to keep his butt in Minnesota by blowing the hold and putting himself in line for the loss — the Twins went to work.

Brooks Lee, though, was the answer for the Twins.

Dashawn Keirsey Jr. singled, Mickey Gasper was hit by a pitch, and then Willi Castro was hit by a pitch too. Carlos Correa grounded out, forcing the runner at home — out. But then Brooks Lee singled on a line drive to left.

Game over. Twins walk it off.

Now Jhoan Duran gets the win. Trade stock back up… I guess.

Jordan Hicks blew it for the Red Sox — his first blown save of the season — but he’s now 1–7.

Rookie Richard Fitts pitched four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out two, while also giving up the home run to Keirsey Jr.

A good one for the Twins. They play again tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. Paddack was supposed to get the start, but as of now, the starting pitcher for the twins is TBD. For the Red Sox, Lucas Giolito will be on the mound.
