Twins 4, White Sox 3: BlackJax

Twins rookie owns White Sox

Aside from one two-home run inning today, Twins pitching absolutely shoved. Holding the dangerous White Sox offense to only 6 hits and 3 runs is nothing to sneeze at, especially considering how poorly the staff has been doing this year.

Griffin Jax had yet another solid outing today- he did give up 3 runs in the aforementioned “bad inning”, but mowed down the swing-happy Sox for a career-high 10 punch-outs to only 1 walk in six innings. The young Air Force cadet is certainly putting himself in the running for a rotation spot next year.

On the contrary, Dallas Keuchel did not have his best stuff today, and it showed immediately. The Chicago lefty loaded the bases on three walks before Luis Arraez’s single scored one. Another would score on a Miguel Sano groundout before the close of the inning.

However, the Twins offense would go silent for the next 4 innings, while the Sox took the lead in the third. In that inning, the White Sox strung together three of their six hits- not that it really mattered, considering that two of them were home runs by Adam Engel and Jose Abreu.

In the bottom of the sixth, it was starting to look dark for the Twins. They had been shut down fora few innings as Keuchel found his groove, and the lethal Sox bullpen loomed. Keuchel got two quick outs in the inning, and then Miguel Sano walked. And then walks haunted. La Tortuga himself, a position player who is as likely to give up a home run as he is to hit one. launched one from a knee to put the Twins ahead.

After the Twins took the lead, the newly acquired John Gant pitched a clean inning (still can’t believe we were able to trade Happ). Then Tyler Duffey pitched a clean inning (one hit, but wiped out on a double play). Then Alex Colome(!!!!!!!) pitched a clean inning. And that was the ballgame. The Sox never put up a serious scoring threat aside from the third inning.

Shockingly enough, the Twins will be going for the series win tomorrow, in their last game versus Chicago this year.
