5 Takeaways From Daniel Jeremiah’s First 2024 NFL Mock Draft

January 22, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

2024 NFL Mock Draft

With the 2023 season now in the rear-view mirror for 24 of 32 teams, it is officially draft season for the majority of NFL fanbases. Daniel Jeremiah, one of the most highly respected analysts in the NFL draft industry, released a 2024 mock draft on Friday and made some interesting picks.  As a former scout, Jeremiah is very tapped into NFL circles and his mock draft is something to put a lot of weight into.

With the 2024 NFL Draft still a few months away there is a lot that can change.  Regardless, it’s a fun exercise to look through different mock drafts and envision different scenarios that could arise come April.

5 Takeaways From Daniel Jeremiah’s 2024 NFL Mock Draft

5th overall: Chargers Select Rome Odunze, WR Washington

The Chargers have a fascinating decision with the fifth-overall pick as the choice will likely come down to giving Justin Herbert another weapon in the passing game at wide receiver or upgrading his pass protection with an offensive tackle.  Jeremiah predicts in the first release of his 2024 NFL mock draft that Rome Odunze will be the choice.

11th overall: Vikings Select Byron Murphy II, DT Texas

Illinois’ Jer’Zhan Newton has been thought of as the best defensive tackle in this draft class for a long time, however, he fell to 28th overall in this mock draft as Texas’ Byron Murphy II is the first defensive tackle off the board.  Murphy has flown up draft boards thanks to his tremendous play this season showcasing his abilities as both a pass rusher and run defender.

12th overall: Broncos Select Terrion Arnold, CB Alabama

Another player who has boosted their draft stock with their play this season is Alabama’s Terrion Arnold, who is the first cornerback off the board in this mock draft.  Arnold is a very well-rounded player as has a good combination of movement and ball skills, as well as instincts and tackling in the run game.

13th overall: Raiders Select Olu Fashanu, OT Penn State

Olu Fashanu has been seen as one of the top non-quarterback prospects in this draft class for much of the process, but in this mock draft, he is the third tackle off the board going 13th overall.  This shouldn’t be seen as a knock on Fashanu as Joe Alt and Taliese Fuaga are also phenomenal offensive tackle prospects, however, it may be time to consider that the Penn State offensive tackle won’t come off the board quite as high as originally thought.

14th overall: Saints select Bo Nix, QB Oregon

One of the big stories of this draft will be what quarterback-needy teams outside of the top three selections opt to do.  Bo Nix is a good potential option for a team outside of the top ten to secure a talented quarterback without mortgaging the future to trade up.  In this scenario, Nix goes to the Saints where he can potentially take his rookie year to learn from Derek Carr before stepping into a starting role.
