The Minnesota Vikings came into the first day of the 2024 NFL draft intent on coming away with a quarterback. They were able to do just that, taking former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and they were able to keep their second pick in the first round in the process. The Vikings would later trade that pick to move up once again and take EDGE rusher Dallas Turner, from Alabama.
The selection of J.J. McCarthy may come as a surprise to some, but it really shouldn’t given the prowess that the Michigan Wolverines football program has been able to build over the decades — particularly the past few years under former head coach (now with the Los Angeles Chargers) Jim Harbaugh.
