The quarterback carousel that is the 2024 NFL draft class won’t stop spinning for another eight days. After the first day of the draft, the dust will settle.
Until then, speculation is going to continue to run rampant. The latest round of it concerns Drake Maye and the Minnesota Vikings.
During a network mock draft special, ESPN’s Adam Schefter was asked his thoughts on the New England Patriots pick at No. 3, QB Drake Maye. He mentions that Maye could be selected by another team — the Vikings.
“I think Drake Maye is the leader in the clubhouse, but it all depends on the team. If Minnesota were to find a way to go up to 3, my sense is Drake Maye is the preference.”
Landing Maye might be the Vikings’ best scenario outside of the top two expected picks in Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. Maye has the physical and mental tools that many believe will lead him to success, and placing him with the Vikings coaching staff and skill players would add a different dynamic.
Whoever they end up with won’t be rushed into the limelight. Expect Sam Darnold to play the bridge role, at least for the start of the year.
