The 2024 season was somewhat of a magical one for the Minnesota Vikings, but no one will forget the horrific note the season started on. Before the pre-season even began, the Vikings got news no one ever expects or is prepared to hear. Their fourth-round draft pick, cornerback Khyree Jackson, had been killed in a car accident.
Today, word has come down from Prince George’s County state attorney Aisha Braveboy that a grand jury has returned an indictment on 13 counts against Cori Clingman, the woman allegedly behind the wheel of the vehicle that caused the crash killing Jackson and two others. The charges include vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.
Jackson was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Oregon, and figured to play a prominent role on the team in his rookie season. Jackson figured to slot into the rotation for the team at cornerback and play a vital role at a position that was seen as a weakness on the team heading into the season. Jackson may have even earned a starting role opposite eventual Pro Bowler Byron Murphy Jr. after a strong showing in OTAs.
Unfortunately, Jackson never got that chance due to the late-night crash that killed him along with two of his former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton, Jr. No other individuals were harmed in the wreck. If found guilty, Clingman could face up to 30 years in prison for their deaths.
