As the Indianapolis Colts are not looking to trade anytime soon, right before Week 1 of the regular season, they could send Anthony Richardson in a blockbuster deal. According to Bleacher Report, the two parties have brought up the idea of a trade, even though the Colts have reportedly said they’re not looking to move on from him after naming veteran Daniel Jones the starter for the 2025 campaign. Colts general manager Chris Ballard met with Richardson recently to discuss the idea of a trade and his standing with the organization, but nothing has come up as of now. Originally selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Florida product tried to establish himself as a capable signal-caller for the team, but he hasn’t lived up to those expectations.
After another unproductive 2025 preseason, the Colts decided it was best to name Jones as the starter since he’s been outperforming Richardson. Unfortunately, his future will now lie in the hands of Jones, and if he winds up getting this offense back into the groove of things, there is a chance that a trade happens. What’s interesting is that the team received interest from other teams regarding Richardson, so this isn’t the end for the quarterback as far as getting another shot in the NFL. However, the team retaining the quarterback might be smart since Jones tends to be inconsistent himself in past years with the New York Giants, but no one should rule out the idea of a trade.

Next Possible Teams?
New Orleans Saints
Despite quarterback Spencer Rattler proving that he’s an adequate starter, the New Orleans Saints will benefit from adding more depth for Tyler Shough. Both of them showed their flashes, but Rattler won the job; there are still a lot of question marks about Shough’s potential with New Orleans. If it comes down to Shough and Richardson, this might be the competition the Saints need to establish who will win the backup job. All of the momentum is shifting towards Rattler at this point in the season, but the biggest question is whether he can stay consistent.
If head coach Kellen Moore feels like Rattler isn’t the answer, they could continue to test the waters and trade for Richardson at some point in the 2025 regular season and determine who wants it more.
Carolina Panthers
The same can be said about the Carolina Panthers. Quarterback Bryce Young was once on the bench after the Panthers endured a losing streak, but the good news is that they have adequate offensive weapons, and there shouldn’t be an excuse for his inadequacy. With Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker and David Moore coming together as an underrated receiver group, Young has the momentum at this stage.
Just like the Rattler, can he stay consistent? If not, it shouldn’t be surprising if head coach Dave Canales trades for a quarterback like Richardson since Andy Dalton is nothing more than a bridge starter.
Minnesota Vikings
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings aren’t in the market for a starting quarterback, but the depth behind JJ McCarthy isn’t promising. Carson Wentz signed a deal with Minnesota, but he’s coming off a disastrous week from last year against the Broncos while the Chiefs were resting their starters. There’s room for improvement here, and they’d be better off developing a potential talent like Richardson.
