Breaking: Former Bill Named Best Trade Asset This Upcoming NFL Draft

March 23, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The NFL Draft is still weeks away, but former Buffalo Bill defensive lineman Harrison Phillips could be the best trade asset for the Minnesota Vikings. According to Pro Football Focus, the Vikings could trade Harrison Phillips this offseason since they were able to overhaul its trenches after signing Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave to deals. Either way, this would have made a guy like Phillips expendable so it makes sense why he’s the best trade asset for the Vikings since he’s looking for a rebound. Phillips won’t be the best available defensive lineman on the trade block but teams wanting to see proven results could take a chance on him.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former Stanford product began his career by signing a four-year deal with the Bills serving in a reserve role for his entire rookie year. Phillips had some promise in his sophomore campaign after recording his first sack against Hall of Famer Eli Manning but later suffered a torn ACL the next two weeks. The defensive lineman didn’t return which did end his tenure early with the Bills but had career seasons with the Vikings the next two years in 2022 and 2023. Phillips started all 17 matchups recording 59 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his first season with Minnesota and continued to get better.

Despite those seasons, he’s been more on the quieter side so it might be best for the team to trade him to another roster to possibly revive his career with these three suitors.

3 Potential Trade Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens offense was on fire but the same can’t be said about its defense since they lost a lot of weapons such as Jadeveon Clowney and Geno Stone. Meanwhile, Broderick Washington and Travis Jones have huge shoes to fill in this high-caliber defense but they were a clear-cut disappointment. This is why they brought back Yannick Ngakoue for a few games to beef up the defensive line but they oddly cut him. The Ravens may select a new defensive lineman in this year’s draft but they could get creative to trade for one.

Phillips won’t change this defense completely but it gives Justin (Nnamdi) Madubuike another body to work alongside in the rotation. The Ravens have one of the best pass rushers in this league but they don’t have enough experience. Perhaps, Phillips could change that around as a capable run-stopper.

Los Angeles Chargers

For the Chargers, they had one of the worst run defenses last year but Jesse Minter was able to bring out the best in Poona Ford and Teair Tart throughout the defensive line. Ford isn’t on the roster anymore so they need another body to assist Tart who’s returning to the Chargers on another one-year deal. Phillips might not get after the quarterback as much but he could create opportunities for others like Khalil Mack to ram in the middle.

Kansas City Chiefs

However, the Kansas City Chiefs could be a favorite fit for Phillips since the team never fails to bring out the success of the lineman. Chris Jones is a great example of that and even though Charles Omenihu is returning, the team could use another rotation defensive piece. Phillips isn’t getting more than five sacks but as long as he can put pressure on the line, it could make life easier for Nick Bolton.
