A Pro Bowl wide receiver is about to hit the open market. Moments ago, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero announced that Adam Thielen will be released by the Vikings this Friday.
“A onetime undrafted free agent from Minnesota State who went on to catch 55 touchdown passes for his hometown team, Thielen has plenty left in the tank at age 32 and wants to land with a contender,” Pelissero said.
Pelissero said Thielen and the Vikings discussed a restructured deal that would’ve lowered his cap hit for the 2023 season. At the end of the day, they couldn’t work things out.
Thielen’s cap hit for the 2023 season was $19.9 million.
Even though Thielen is no longer playing at an All-Pro level, he should have plenty of suitors this offseason. After all, the market at wide receiver is pretty thin this March.
Thielen finished the 2022 regular season with 70 receptions for 716 yards and six touchdowns.
It’ll be interesting to see which team lands Thielen in free agency.
