Chargers, Saints Could Trade For Struggling Quarterback

The Los Angeles Chargers or New Orleans Saints could trade for struggling quarterback, Malik Willis before the regular season begins. According to a report, one source believes that the Titans might trade him despite being a starter in this weekend’s preseason game against the Seahawks but his performance could raise his stock trade value. However, if he continues to struggle even with an opportunity to showcase his skills, they could cut him or keep him around to put Willis on the trading block. Willis has been struggling to stay consistent and his decision-making has been questionable even though he’s only been getting a few snaps in the preseason for the past two years.

Although he has the arm and dynamic talent to lead an offense and move with his legs to keep it pushing, he continues to be inconsistent so it might be the environment he’s in. Willis was hoping to be the next franchise quarterback in 2022 after Ryan Tannehill‘s departure but Will Levis has been taking the team to another level. He has a shot to become Levis’s backup but it might be smart to put him on a roster where could potentially be a starter one day. Levis got every opportunity out there last season while Willis barely saw the field but that was after a disappointing rookie campaign by him.

A team like the Chargers could enjoy his presence being that Easton Stick has done little to nothing to help win a single football game when Justin Herbert didn’t see the field. Herbert doesn’t have stellar offensive weapons so an injury may be bound to happen. However, Derek Carr continues to be on the hot seat and rookie Spencer Rattler still needs more experience before he can become a starter.

Other Potential Trade Destinations

Carolina Panthers

Bryce Young has the tools and ingredients to lead the offense to at least a wild card this season with the guidance of Andy Dalton behind him. However, the Panthers may benefit from having another quarterback on the roster in case Young continues to struggle. Dalton hasn’t been able to lead a team to an actual championship reign which shows little potential of him doing anything at all if Panthers don’t see Young one day. Willis probably could learn from Dave Canales and his new system to potentially earn a spot behind Young.

Who knows, he may find his path as a starter for the Panthers if this new system works.

Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson has no worries about anyone replacing him for a long time. However, it may be time for the Ravens to start looking for a legitimate backup to help Jackson keep the pace of this offense. Jackson shouldn’t feel any pressure since Tyler Huntley is with the Browns now and Josh Johnson is not a solid backup. He isn’t a reliable No. 2 man who can lead the offense in the trenches if the Ravens suffer a season where they’re without Jackson.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have been having one of the worst training camps that probably anyone can remember as far as losing players to injury and even tragedy. J.J. McCarthy isn’t playing a single-down this season so the team is left with Sam Darnold to lead. Everyone remembers how he wasn’t able to be a legitimate starter for the Jets so it doesn’t make sense that he’ll last 17 full regular season games. Willis isn’t anything like Jackson from the Ravens even though they both can run but he may be hungry for a new scenery and he might able to lead them.
