The Minnesota Vikings have a big question to answer regarding quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason.
Cousins is set to be a free agent in March after spending the past six seasons with the Vikings and his future remains unclear. He wants to come back to the Vikings but they’ll have to think about it since he’s already 35 and will be 36 before next season starts.
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert has given his prediction for what the Vikings will do and he thinks they’ll end up keeping him.
“Drafting at No. 11, Minnesota isn’t likely to select one of the top-tier quarterbacks in the class, so it makes sense to bring back Cousins. So in this case, let’s re-sign him to a two-year, $85 million fully guaranteed extension. That gives the Vikings two years — until Cousins is 38 years old — to draft and develop his successor,” Seifert wrote.
That’s quite a bit of money for Cousins but he was playing his tail off this year before he tore his Achilles. In eight games, he completed 69.5% of his passes for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and only five interceptions.
No matter what happens, Cousins will have plenty of suitors once March comes along.
