ESPN’s Adam Schefter: 1 Team ‘Desperate’ To Make Trade Up For Quarterback

Quarterbacks are expected to come off the board early in tomorrow’s NFL Draft, with the first three picks likely all signal callers.

Currently, the New England Patriots own the No. 3 pick, and there are two teams that have been mentioned extensively as potential candidates to trade up into that spot: the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants.

On Wednesday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Vikings are “more desperate” and “more anxious” to move up than the Giants, adding that Minnesota’s additional first-round pick gives them more ammo to deal.

“Minnesota is better armed, more desperate than the Giants at six,” Schefter said on Get Up. “I think the Giants have done a ton of work into the quarterbacks, but it feels like they would take a quarterback if it worked out for them in the right situation.”

The Vikings hold the Nos. 11 and 23 picks in the first round, while the Giants are sitting at No. 6. New England has been open to discussing trade scenarios, but thus far, has reportedly not heard anything to their liking.

“According to one source, the Patriots have fielded calls and trade offers for their first-round pick,” said MassLive’s Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian. “However, the source indicated that those offers were ‘laughable’ and not close to getting the Patriots to move down. As of now, the team is still waiting for a ‘serious’ offer.”

The Chicago Bears are projected to take USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick, while the Washington Commanders, who pick second, are also expected to take a QB, most likely LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

If Washington instead selects North Carolina’s Drake Maye, said to be the object of Minnesota and New York’s affections, it could add further chaos to the top of the draft.
