He does a lot of this sort of thing
In his second year with the team, defensive lineman Harrison Phillips is having an outstanding season for the Minnesota Vikings. But, as has been the case during the entirety of his time in the NFL, he might be even better off of it.
Before returning to Minneapolis following the Vikings’ bye week, Phillips took a group of children with developmental differences on a shopping trip in his native Omaha. Each of the children that went on the trip was given $100 that they could spend on anything they wanted.
The children are members of Harrison’s Playmakers, a non-profit that coaches and mentors children with social, physical, and economic challenges. The organization has three chapters: One based in Omaha, where Phillips grew up, one in Buffalo where he started his NFL career, and now one in Minneapolis. Their most recent event in Minneapolis saw them distribute 200 meals on Thanksgiving by handing out turkeys to deserving families.
Phillips’ work in the community has not gone unnoticed. For the third time, he’s been nominated for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, as he was nominated for the award in each of his final two seasons in Buffalo.
Kudos to Harrison Phillips to making some special memories for these children in Omaha. Hopefully he’ll be hanging around the Twin Cities for a few more seasons to continue his good works in this area as well.
