Hospital Cuts Ties With Kirk Cousins After His Vaccine Comments

Minnesota Vikings quarterback kirk cousins warms up before a game in new york

Last week, the Minnesota Vikings lost starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to COVID-19 protocols – which sparked an interesting conversation.

Cousins missed several practices this past week after he was deemed a high-risk close contact after teammate Kellen Mond tested positive.

Reporters asked Cousins about the vaccine. He responded it’s “a very private health matter for me, and I’m going to keep it as such.”

Well, that didn’t sit well with a hospital Cousins partners with in his home town. Holland Hospital cut ties with the quarterback after his comments about the vaccine earlier this week.

Here’s a statement from the hospital, via ESPN:

“As the trusted health care leader along the lakeshore, we are committed to providing accurate, timely health information and guidance based on guidelines from the CDC and medical experts.

“While we acknowledge that each person is entitled to their own viewpoints, those who speak on our behalf must support messages that align with the hospital’s position on matters of vital importance to individual and community health.”

The hospital then confirmed it cuts ties with the Vikings quarterback.

“For this reason, Holland Hospital will discontinue using Kirk Cousins as our spokesperson for now,” the statement continued. “We are proud of our association with Kirk. He embodies many values we respect and share as part of our work culture.”

Hopefully Cousins stays healthy during the regular season. If he contracts COVID-19 or is a close contact during regular season play, he’ll potentially have to miss games.

The Vikings don’t want that.
