Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson is officially questionable with a calf injury, but a recent report gave clarity on whether he’ll actually suit up for Sunday’s must-win contest against the Minnesota Vikings. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ferguson is “expected to play.” While this isn’t an official report, Rapoport’s well-respected standing as a national insider suggests Ferguson will suit up barring an unexpected setback.

Jake Ferguson Injury Update: Cowboys TE Expected to Play Against Vikings
This is fantastic news for a Dallas Cowboys team that is technically in the playoff hunt but needs just about everything to go right to actually play meaningful January football. Currently sitting at 6-6-1, with four games left to play, the Cowboys need to win out and hope the 8-5 Philadelphia Eagles continue their downward spiral. Quarterback Dak Prescott is playing at a high level, and the defense has improved since adding Quinnen Williams to the mix, but they’ll need Jake Ferguson to overcome his injury to have any shot of making the playoffs.
Ferguson hasn’t made anyone forget about prime Rob Gronkowski, but the former fourth-round pick has been a solid third option in this passing attack. Appearing in 13 games while making seven starts, the Wisconsin product has recorded 75 receptions for 554 yards and seven touchdowns on 90 targets, posting one of the league’s best catch rates. While wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens have been the big-play threats, Ferguson has emerged as a solid safety blanket for Prescott and the passing attack.
Assuming the injury doesn’t sideline him, Jake Ferguson and the Cowboys will face off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15. Minnesota has a talented roster sabotaged by what is likely the league’s worst collective quarterback play. While first-round pick J.J. McCarthy played well last week, his overall body of work has left a lot to be desired.
