The Minnesota Vikings have a big decision and a lot of soul-searching to do as far as their future with Kirk Cousins goes. But it appears that the organization has already made that decision based on what their head coach has said.
Speaking to the media this week, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said that he believes Cousins wants to remain with the team and that the Vikings are “doing our best” to make that happen for him.
“I feel like Kirk wants to be a Viking and we’re doing our best to make that the outcome,” O’Connell said, via Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
Cousins is slated for free agency and it’s not clear yet if the Vikings are going to make the most competitive offer for him. There will certainly be a market for a quarterback who was completing nearly 70-percent of his passes and with a high passer rating prior to his season-ending injury.
But Cousins will also be 36 when the 2024 season starts and he is coming off that aforementioned season-ending injury.
For a Vikings team that is in a position to potentially find a franchise quarterback in the NFL Draft this year, that could very much impact their approach to Cousins at the negotiating table.
One thing seems sure: Cousins will be a starting quarterback for an NFL team in 2024. The only real question is whether it’ll be with the Vikings or some other team.
Have we seen the last of Kirk Cousins in a Vikings uniform?
