The good guys still lead

They’re heading into the locker rooms at halftime in Seattle, and your Minnesota Vikings lead the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 17-14.

The Seahawks had the ball in Minnesota territory to start the quarter, and they quickly evened things up on the scoreboard as Geno Smith found D.K. Metcalf for a 25-yard touchdown to make it 7-7.

Minnesota then had their worst offensive possession of the afternoon, as they went three-and-out with Sam Darnold getting sacked by Jarran Reed and nearly losing a fumble to end the drive. A penalty on the punt return then pinned Seattle at their own 12-yard line for their third possession of the day.

The two teams then exchanged three-and-outs and the Vikings took over at their own 32-yard line. Minnesota put together another impressive drive, and it looked like Darnold was sacked on a third down play in Seattle territory but the Seahawks were flagged for being offsides. Darnold took advantage of the second chance, finding Justin Jefferson for a 19-yard score to make it 14-7.

The Vikings’ defense then took the ball right back as Dallas Turner got his first career interception as he undercut a route and picked off Smith’s pass for Noah Fant.

Unfortunately, Darnold was sacked on the ensuing drive and the Vikings had to settle for a 52-yard Will Reichard field goal to make it 17-7 with about three and a half minutes left in the half.

Seattle went three-and-out on their next possession and gave the Vikings the ball back at their own 32 at the two-minute warning. The Vikings’ offense went three-and-out, however, and Ryan Wright’s punt put Seattle way back at their own 12-yard line for a two-minute possession of their own.

They took advantage of getting the ball back, as Smith found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for an 18-yard touchdown pass with seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 17-14 heading into halftime. The Vikings’ bad two-minute possession led to a big opportunity for the home team and they got the job done.

The Seahawks will get the ball first coming out of the locker room with an opportunity to take the lead. For now, however, the Vikings continue to lead Seattle by a score of 17-14. Come on in and join us for the third quarter of play from Lumen Field!
