The entire NFL has a choice to make each year regarding player contracts, but fifth-year choices are unique in their own way. Each team that has a first-round selection has a choice to make once that player’s fourth year rolls around. The question they have to ask is, will that player be part of their future, and if so, is he worth an extension for one year or more?
Several teams have already picked up fifth-year options or, in some cases, declined them. What has also started to occur, especially in the past week, is that teams are signing players to long-term extensions who have earned them.
Teams have until May 2 to make decisions on these players. If the team decides to pick up the option, they will remain with their team until 2025 unless otherwise signed to an extension, as mentioned above.
Here is every team’s current status on their player’s fifth-year options.
