Back like we never left. It was great getting back to football, even if fans aren’t there in every stadium. It’s still football. Week 2 is in the rearview, and it looked better for some NFC North teams than it did for others.
Let’s take a look at Week 2 in the North. The winners, the losers, and the head-scratchers.
Green Bay Packers 42 – Detroit Lions 21
After a disappointing finish to last week’s game against Chicago, Detroit had a tough draw in the Packers at Lambeau. The Lions came out hot to start, but then their defense just couldn’t hold up to quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
After being down 14-3, the Packers scored 31 unanswered points. Running back Aaron Jones was a huge factor in that, as he had a career-high 168 yards rushing and scored 3 touchdowns. Rodgers had 240 yards and 2 touchdowns, with a QB rating of 107.6.
This loss left some Lions fans calling for Matt Patricia’s job as the Lions are the first team ever to lose four straight games with a double-digit lead. After last season, many believe Patricia was on the hot seat before the season even started, and with good reason.
Next up, the Packers will travel to New Orleans to take on QB Drew Brees and the Saints. While the Lions try to get their first win in Arizona.
Chicago Bears 17 – New York Giants 13
You know, going into the season, there was plenty of talk that QB Mitch Trubisky may not be the one in Chicago. But today, he looked a little more comfortable a gave the Bears a 17-0 lead over the Giants.
The Giants did try to come back forcing the game to come down to the final seconds. But the Bears were able to hang on, after Giants wide receiver Golden Tate was called for offensive pass interference as he pushed off of safety Eddie Jackson as time ran out.
Did not being signed to a 5th year, and bringing in Nick Foles, light a fire under Trubisky? Perhaps it did. The Bears are going to try to go 3-0 for the first time since 2013 when they take on the Falcons in Atlanta.
And in other news, it was announced on Sunday that RB Tarik Cohen was signed to a 3-year extension. Good news for him!
Indianapolis Colts 28 – Minnesota Vikings 11
While the Lions being 0-2 is sort of expected, the Vikings sitting at 0-2 is more surprising, especially since it was thought that they could contend for the division.
It was an ugly day for the Vikings in Indianapolis. QB Kirk Cousins had 3 interceptions, no touchdowns, and threw for only 113 yards. Clearly not his best effort. Oh yeah…and this was their second game that Cousins got sacked in his own end zone. Not good at all.
However, their star running back, Dalvin Cook had 63 yards and a touchdown. All in all, this wasn’t a good effort from the team. Here’s hoping that the get it together, as next week they face the Tennessee Titans at home in Minnesota.
