Report: Blake Cashman Likely to Miss Sunday’s Game Against Detroit

And he might miss the next one, too

When they line up to face the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings will likely be without one of the players that has been a leader on defense in the early portion of the season.

Sources: Vikings linebacker Blake Cashman is dealing with turf toe and isn’t expected to play Sunday vs the Lions. His status for the next game, against the Rams the following Thursday, is also in doubt from what I’ve heard. Story filed to @StarTribune @StribSports

According to Andrew Krammer of the Minnesota Star-Tribune, linebacker Blake Cashman is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Lions with a turf toe issue. Because the Vikings have a quick turnaround for their next game against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football, Cashman’s status for that one is in doubt as well.

Cashman, an Eden Prairie native who played at the University of Minnesota and signed with the Vikings this offseason, has been one of many shining stars for the Minnesota defense through the first five games. He currently leads the team in tackles and has been solid in coverage as well.

Without Cashman in the lineup, the Vikings will likely have to lean on players like Kamu Grugier-Hill and Brian Asamoah to fill the spot next to Ivan Pace Jr. on the interior of the defense. While the loss of Cashman will be a significant one, the Vikings have managed to deal with injuries fairly well to this point of the season and hopefully Brian Flores and company can continue to do so.

We’ll know more about Cashman’s status when the Vikings release their first injury report of the week this afternoon, but for now it appears that one of their leaders on defense will be watching at least the next game, and possibly the next two, from the sidelines.
