Report: Dalvin Cook “unlikely” to play against Seahawks

NFL: Minnesota Vikings at Arizona Cardinals

Welp

Yesterday, when sharing some of the roster moves that the Minnesota Vikings had made leading up to their home opener against the Seattle Seahawks, yours truly thought that it might be an indicator that star running back Dalvin Cook was going to play this afternoon despite not having practiced all week.

My bad, y’all.

As the week progressed, there was a less confident tone that Vikings RB Dalvin Cook would play Sunday vs. Seattle due to his sprained ankle, per source. Cook didn’t practice all week, it’s early in season, and going into pre-game warmups it was considered “unlikely” he plays.

According to Adam Schefter, the thought of Cook being available for this one has basically evaporated, as it is now considered “unlikely” that he takes the field this afternoon.

Cook suffered a sprained ankle in last weekend’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and though he gave it a go for most of the rest of the game after his injury, he was clearly hobbled and replaced late in the fourth quarter by Alexander Mattison. Mattison is just one of two running backs on the roster (other than Cook) as it stands right now with the team signing veteran Ameer Abdullah to the 53-man roster yesterday.

I believe the team could still elevate rookie A.J. Rose Jr., who had an impressive preseason, to the roster in time for the start of this one, but we’ll have to see.

In any event, the Vikings will apparently not have Dalvin Cook available for today’s home opener. If anything changes on that front, we’ll let you know.
