The Minnesota Vikings made headlines for only unfortunate reasons on Saturday.
First, the Vikings suffered a series of setbacks at the quarterback position. Minnesota was down three quarterbacks, including Kirk Cousins, on Saturday after Kellen Mond tested positive for COVID-19. That left just former University of Washington star quarterback Jake Browning manning the offense during Saturday’s practice.
To make matters even worse, the Vikings received awful injury news for wide receiver Olabisi Johnson on Saturday night. The young, promising player suffered a torn ACL during Friday’s practice and will miss the 2021 season, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
Johnson combined for 64 catches for 483 yards and three touchdowns in 32 games during his first two seasons. He figured to be in the Vikings’ rotation at receiver later this fall. It’s an unfortunate setback for both Johnson and Minnesota’s offense.
#Vikings WR Olabisi Johnson suffered a torn ACL in practice Friday, source said. Rough break for a promising young player who has 45 catches over his first two NFL seasons.

Olabisi Johnson went down with the injury during Friday’s practice. It was a non-contact injury, which is always a major concern. Unfortunately, such concern was validated by Saturday night’s injury update. We wish Johnson all the best in his recovery.
The Vikings took Johnson in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He caught 125 passes for 2,019 yards and 11 touchdowns in four years with the Colorado State Rams.
Minnesota, meanwhile, is entering a pivotal year. The Vikings have one of the best rosters in the NFL, but that’s been the case for several years now. The Vikings’ 2021 success will come down to quarterback play (looking at you Kirk Cousins).
