It’s no secret that the Vikings defense had an uncharacteristically bad season in 2020 for the Mike Zimmer era.
However, Minnesota doesn’t need that many returning starters to bounce back. That’s because many of the players who struggled at times in 2020 — Shamar Stephen, Jaleel Johnson, Ifeadi Odenigbo and others — have departed in free agency.
The returning starters such as Eric Kendricks and Harrison Smith played pretty well for the most part. So despite a porous defense in 2020, Minnesota’s bounce-back candidates all did not play for the Vikings this past season.
