Vikings officially place four players on COVID-19 list

Three of them we already knew about

As we expected following Saturday night’s news, the Minnesota Vikings have officially placed four players on their reserve/COVID-19 list.

Three of them were the quarterbacks that we already knew about in Kellen Mond (who tested positive for COVID), Kirk Cousins (close contact) and Nate Stanley (close contact). They are joined on the COVID-19 list by UDFA wide receiver Myron Mitchell.

The team has also officially placed wide receiver Bisi Johnson on injured reserve following his ACL tear.

Per the league’s latest protocols, all of those players will be forced to stay away from the team for at least five days. It could be longer depending upon the results of testing.

While Mond was reportedly fully vaccinated and contracted the virus anyway, the isolation periods for Cousins and Stanley seem to imply that they are not. If they had been fully vaccinated, they would not have to isolate for being close contacts. No word has come down on whether or not Mitchell had been vaccinated.

UPDATE: It’s also worth noting that Mitchell was not one of the players that missed Saturday night’s practice at TCO Stadium. He was a full participant and has since been placed on the COVID-19 list.

There were some concerns that rookie offensive lineman Wyatt Davis might also be a candidate to go on the COVID list, as he had been working with Mond on snaps at practice late last week. However, Davis was not one of the players that the team put on the list.

That means that there are four roster spots open, albeit temporarily, on the Vikings’ roster as things stand right now. They’re bringing two quarterbacks in for workouts today to take some of the load off of Jake Browning, but we’ll have to see what they decide to do with the other spots in the meantime.
