Process of elimination, folks
We don’t yet know who the Minnesota Vikings will be facing in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, but through various reports, we’re learning more and more about who they won’t be facing.
Probably won’t, I mean. We don’t know for sure yet.
We already know that they won’t be facing the Cleveland Browns or the Pittsburgh Steelers, as both of those games are happening overseas in Weeks 4 and 5. The Los Angeles Chargers are also, reportedly, off the table, with the Vikings apparently traveling to Los Angeles in Week 8 for Thursday Night Football.
The Vikings will also, apparently, not be facing their division rivals from Detroit or Green Bay to start the season, as they’re going to be playing each other in the Week 1 late window.

In addition, it doesn’t appear that my prediction of a Sam Darnold Revenge Game™ will be happening in Week 1, either.

It also doesn’t appear that the Vikings will be seeing the New York Giants or the Washington Commanders to begin the season.
Feeling good about these three games for Giants. Also heard the Chiefs game is in prime time.
And here’s Week 4, unconfirmed: Chargers at home. https://t.co/dWgjglDDLR— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) May 14, 2025
Lastly, at least for now, the Atlanta Falcons will reportedly be facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, eliminating another potential Vikings opponent.
So, if we take all of those potential games off of the table, as well as the other Week 1 games that have already been confirmed, the Vikings’ possible opponents for Week 1 are down to the following four possibilities:
- at Chicago Bears
- vs Chicago Bears
- vs Baltimore Ravens
- vs Cincinnati Bengals
If that’s the case, there’s a 75% chance that the Vikings will start their season at home.
I don’t think there’s any Steiner Math involved here. That’s what we’re looking at as things stand right now.
We’ll be tracking everything about the Vikings’ schedule, whether it’s confirmed news, rumors, or leaks, on our Schedule Tracker, so keep yourself tuned there for all the latest!
