Vikings ranked the second-best 0-2 team in the NFL

September 25, 2021 by Vikings Wire Leave a Comment

In case you didn’t know, Minnesota is 0-2. After loading up in free agency and retaining key talent, the Vikings may be on the brink of roster destruction if 2021 ends up being disappointing for them.

For Minnesota fans, it can be hard to find any positive takeaways from two close losses. But there is one silver lining: for an 0-2 team in the NFL, the Vikings are very good, at least according to ESPN.

Minnesota was tabbed as the second best 0-2 team in the league by Bill Barnwell of ESPN. Barnwell wrote:

“The game against the Seahawks on Sunday amounts to a must-win, especially if the Packers pull out a victory in San Francisco. If the Vikings do lose and fall to 0-3, we’ll likely start seeing questions about the future of the two most important people in this organization. Zimmer has been at the helm for eight years and won two playoff games, and Cousins is on the books with a $45 million cap hit in the final year of his deal next year. The Vikings have tried to squeeze out another playoff run with this core around Cousins, but it might be time to start over if one isn’t in the cards this season.”

There’s some good news and bad news. The good news is the Vikings may be able to turn things around, due to the team having high expectations. The bad news? If Minnesota keeps trending this way, the team could be looking at a full-on teardown, where the Vikings need multiple seasons before they contend again.
