Vikings receive good news with new NFL Salary Cap projection

February 22, 2025 by Vikings Wire

According to Spotrac, the Minnesota Vikings were projected to have over $61 million in cap space going into the 2025 offseason. Now, with a report that the cap is set to rise by at least $20 million from last year, the Vikings will have even more.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported that the NFL informed teams that the cap would be between $277.5 million and $281.5 million. That’s an increase of over $53 million in the past two years.

Although this helps the Vikings, it also helps the other 31 teams around the league. More money means larger contracts. The key will be how the Vikings use that money. They haven’t tried to overpay for free agents since Kwesi Adofo-Mensah took over. Will they alter that approach with more money at their disposal? Or will the additional money help them secure several lower-profile players who can address multiple holes across the roster?

The additional money could make re-signing players like Aaron Jones or Byron Murphy, Jr. easier if they can agree on contract terms. Jones may not be commanding a massive contract due to his age. But does the cap increase Murphy’s price, which could be out of the Vikings’ range?

These questions remain to be seen. But having additional money certainly doesn’t hurt the Vikings next month.
