Lyon Signs With Detroit
Alex Lyon has a new contract in place. The journeymen goaltender has been around the block a few times and the journey keeps on going. Lyon has bounced around the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes before finding a permanent home with the Florida Panthers. That is where the magic was captured.
After seeing Spencer Knight go into the payer assistance program and Sergei Bobrovsky get hurt, it was his time to shine. Lyon would help catapult the Panthers into the playoffs and post a record of 14-9-4. Not to mention his 7.5 goals saved above expected led the team. In addition, Lyon finished the season with a 2.89 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. In his first heavy workload, he did his best and played well enough to secure this contract.
What This Contract Means For Lyon
This is a great contract for Alex Lyon. After bouncing around and trying to carve a role for himself, he finally has a permanent spot. Lyon can soak this all in and focus on playing hockey. He was a bright spot for the Panthers and even got to start three playoff games for the team. The rest was history, but Lyon got his first taste of meaningful hockey and performed in the moment.
What This Means For The Team
The Alex Lyon contract is good for the team. Lyon showed flashes that he can be a reliable goaltender and help man the crease. In addition, he does not cost a lot and can help form a 1A/1B tandem in net. Reliability in net is huge and Lyon showed that with his brief stint in Florida. This is a great contract for both sides.
