It’s another Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions. We’ve got a matchup between the Minnesota Wild and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Both teams are trying to continue momentum heading into the Olympic break in a few weeks’ time. These two teams are meeting for the first time this season. Minnesota won both meetings last campaign, but are 3-5-2 in the last 10 against Toronto.
Minnesota is coming off a 5-4 overtime victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon. The Wild are 4-3-3 in their previous 10 games entering this primetime matchup. Minnesota won despite injuries to some key players on Saturday.
Toronto has struggled to find consistency many times this season. The Maple Leafs are coming off a 4-3 OT win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night. Toronto is 7-1-2 in their previous 10 games entering this game against a very talented Minnesota squad. The 4-3 overtime win on Hockey Night in Canada stopped the brief losing run.
Let’s take a look at the statistics and the storylines in this Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions.
The Wild Story
Minnesota stopped a three-game losing streak after a gutsy performance against a streaking Buffalo team. The Wild were without Joel Eriksson Ek and Matt Boldy in the victory over the Sabres. Minnesota will have to find a way to make do without two vital players.
Filip Gustavsson is the projected starter for the Wild. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Gustavsson has a 14-9-5 record with a 2.50 goals-against-average and .914 save percentage. The Swedish netminder also has a pair of shutouts so far this campaign.
Kirill Kaprizov leads the way in assists (30) and points (55) so far this season. Players like Marcus Johansson will have to step up and fill the void while Eriksson Ek and Boldy are out of the lineup.
The Maple Leafs Story
Toronto returns home after a brief three-game road trip. The Maple Leafs defence had issues keeping the puck out of the net against the Utah Mammoth and the Vegas Golden Knights.
Joseph Woll is the expected starter for the Maple Leafs after Dennis Hildeby got the call against the Winnipeg Jets. Woll has an 11-4-3 record and a 2.73 GAA with a .914 save percentage.
Entering Saturday night’s games, William Nylander leads the team in assists (31) and points (48). However, Nylander’s status is uncertain going into Monday night’s game. Auston Matthews leads the team in goals with 24 after Saturday’s game.
Prediction
Both clubs are searching for momentum to start the week. Minnesota and Toronto are both dealing with injuries to key players entering this matchup. Keep an eye on social media before making any lineup decisions.
Despite the injuries, the Wild are a tough team to deal with. However, the Maple Leafs should get the win at home in this one.
Prediction: Maple Leafs win 4-3.
Prop Bets of the Night
We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this game is 6.5, and we like the over in this game. Both clubs have got solid goaltenders but also have strong offences.
As for individual props, go with Quinn Hughes to get a power-play point for Minnesota. On the Toronto side of things, take John Tavares to register an anytime goal.
