Prime Monday Night Hockey: Canadiens vs Wild

Head-to-Head: Canadiens 1-0 Wild

How to Watch:

U.S. TV:  Fan Duel Sports North; Fan Duel Sports Wisconsin; ESPN+

Canada TV: Prime (Canada); RDS

Time: 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)

It’s another Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of NHL predictions. We’ve got the last matchup on Prime before the Olympic break between the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild. Both clubs have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, including three-game winning streaks.

Each club is trying to get itself into better position for the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoff push. Minnesota has already made a massive move in picking up Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks. Montreal hasn’t broken the seal on a big deal, but it has been rumoured to be a player at the upcoming deadline.

Let’s take a look at the statistics and storylines in this Monday Night Hockey on Prime edition of our NHL Predictions.

The Canadiens Story

Montreal has reeled three consecutive victories, including a 4-2 win over the red-hot Bufalo Sabres on Saturday night. The Habs have totaled 14 goals during this winning run, which is part of the reason that they average 3.44 goals scored per game.

Sam Montembeault is the expected starter for this game. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Montembeault has steadied himself in recent games but still has a 3.23 goals-against-average and an .868 save percentage.

Cole Caufield may be an Olympic snub for the Americans, but “Mr. Saturday Night” has 32 goals this season, including seven in his last 10 games. Nick Suzuki is first on the team in assists (46) and points (64) so far this season.

The Wild Story

Minnesota has matched Montreal’s recent winning ways in its last 10 games. The Wild have been just as potent as the Canadiens in their last 10 games with 14 goals in their 10 last 10. (Minnesota did beat the Chicago Blackhawks in a shootout to start this recent run.

Filip Gustavsson is the projected starter for Minnesota and has an 18-9-6 mark so far this season. The Swede also has a 2.53 goals-against-average, and three shutouts.

Kirill Kaprizov has been excellent so far this season with 30 goals, 37 assists, and 67 points to lead the Wild. Matt Boldy recently returned to the lineup and has 29 goals so far this campaign.

Prediction

Both clubs have plenty of offensive fireworks due to the talented forward groups. However, both teams also have defensive players that can also pile up the points. All of this scoring potential will play into our prop bets later on.

However, Minnesota has more of an answer in goal so far. Gustavsson gives the Wild a chance to steal this game despite the forwards the Habs have.

Prediction: Wild win 4-3.

Prop Bets of the Night

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this game between the Canadiens and the Wild is 6.5, and we like the over in this matchup.

As for individual props, take Ivan Demidov to record at least a point for Montreal. On the Minnesota side of things, go with Hughes to register a power play point in this game.
