After two exciting games against the lowly White Sox, the Twins will try to win three straight for the first time this season. You would have hoped to have one sooner, but so it goes when your team hits this poorly for the first three weeks of the season. But as has become our mantra this week: “Thanks, White Sox!”
The Twins will have their work cut out for them going against hard-throwing lefty Garrett Crochet. The former reliever has looked stellar since transitioning to the rotation, don’t let his high 5.61 ERA fool you. His league-leading 11.9 K/9 is sure to cause trouble for the strikeout-prone Twins, especially without Kepler, Larnach, Kirilloff, and Julien in the lineup. One thing in Minnesota’s favor: he relies heavily on his fastball, which is seemingly the only pitch the Twins can hit.
Joe Ryan is on the mound for the hometown nine. He’s looked stellar so far this year and is a couple bad ball/strike calls away from a near flawless start to the season. He’ll look to keep the magic going against a very weak lineup.
The Twins go with the “Oops, all righties!” lineup against the lefty, per usual. If the game is close late, there’s a good chance we’ll see all four bench players play in this one as well when the South Siders go to the ‘pen.
